In After the Dance, one of Haiti's most renowned daughters returns to her homeland, taking readers on a stunning, exquisitely rendered journey beyond the hedonistic surface of Carnival and into its deep heart. Edwidge Danticat had long been scared off from Carnival by a loved one, who spun tales of people dislocating hips from gyrating with too much abandon, losing their voices from singing too loudly, going deaf from the clamor of immense speakers, and being punched, stabbed, pummeled, or fondled by other lustful revelers. He has argued before state, federal and international courts, defending children's rights. Mr. Rein has authored several important papers, given evidence to the New York State Legislature, and has produced TV programs such as "The Human Rights Enigma" series on children's rights in international law and "Wednesday's Children" a Special on International Parental Child Abduction. He has appeared on radio and television in Europe and America, and has been on the Faculty for the Children's Rights Council 2001 National Conference and guest speaker/presenter for the PARENT, Inc.
